HBC (Harties Biking Council) hosts a yearly endurance event. The aim is to participate in one of the endurance events to see whether man and machine has what it takes to go the distance.
They host a 1000km, 500km and 160km (for scooters and sidecars only).
Entry was R350 for the event and included breakfast at McDonald's, a T-shirt, badge and belt buckle, all of which is really good value for money.
The day started at McDonalds in Brits for breakfast from where we department, in true Le Mans style, onto the N4 all the way to Middelburg. From Middelburg we traveled north past Loskop Dam through Groblersdal and onto Marble Hall.
From Marble Hall it was back to the N1 via Settlers all the way South to Pretoria onto the N4 back to Brits where a ride through had to take place at the Zakkers Pub.
Leaving Zakkers we had to go over the Hartbeespoort dam to the N14 near Krugersdorp to Ventersdorp where we encountered the harshest wind from the side imaginable!
Riding through Ventersdorp we went past Coligny, through Lichtenburg on our way to Zeerust from where we headed through Swartruggens past Rustenburg and then to Brits to end the run at the Zakkers Pub.
Clinton Pienaar from Superbike Magazine joined us for an epic day in which skill, dedication, motivation and some luck saw for what was to be the ride of our lives.
The HBC Endurance run is a must for anybody who wishes to try something different and test their machines over a long distance.
A big thank you to Deon and his team for organizing the day and for hosting a great event.
I would like to thank Mean Machine Pretoria and Silverton Midas for all the effort and support provided to make this one brilliant trip!
